What Is a Faqtopus?
FAQtopus is our name for one FAQ page carrying a set of locked buyer questions, each answered in a sentence, each linking to a full post that answers the same question at length with its sources shown. We coined the name today. This page is the first one built, and it is about itself: every question on the head is one of the eight this site exists to answer, plus a ninth, held back, that nobody sees.
The shape, in one pass
One head. Eight arms. Each arm is a full post, answer-first, every figure sourced, ending in a "cite this" block instead of a request to link back. The head links out to each arm with the question itself as the anchor text. Answer-first FAQ content is the oldest advice in this field, and it is also the best-evidenced advice, because engines lift blocks that already look like an answer.
What is new is a constraint most FAQ pages don't carry. The eight questions on this page are not chosen for reach. They are chosen because we are measuring, on a fixed schedule, across four AI engines, whether each one gets cited. A ninth question, never shown here, gets measured the same way and never gets an arm. If the eight questions above the fold start moving and the ninth does not, we built something that works. If the ninth moves too, the engines changed underneath us and this page gets no credit. We wrote that test down before this page existed, which is the only way a test like this means anything.
Why we built the first one about ourselves
We run an AI-optimization practice, and we have spent thirteen straight weeks at zero citations on the buyer questions that matter most to us before this page existed. That is not a hidden number. We publish it every week, whichever way it falls, because a category built on screenshots and testimonials needs at least one operator willing to show a losing streak, not only a winning one.
Building the first page under the FAQtopus technique does two things a client case study could not. It puts us inside our own test, with our own money and our own measured history, before we ask anyone else to trust the method. And it gives a prospective customer a working example they can read end to end, not a screenshot of somebody else's dashboard.
Final thoughts
A name is a claim you can check. We are dating this one, September 14, 2026, and measuring it in the open. The eight questions on this site are the test. The results follow in October.
